Holiday Lights on the River 

In addition to viewing the spectacular light displays, family activities make this event a Must-Do for you and yours. All Holiday Lights activities are offered nightly except Thanksgiving night, Christmas Eve and Christmas night. 

• Ride the Saluda Shoals Park train- $2/per person
• Ride the Saluda Shoals hayride through west side loop- $3/per person
• Slide on the Winter Wonder Ride Tube Slide- $2/slide or $10/all you can slide pass
• Holiday Lights Maze- $1/per person
• Stroll the Wetland trail and enjoy a laser light show- Free
• Make a craft-$1-$5/per craft 
• Visit Santa’s Claus’et gift shop
• Roast marshmallows-$1/per stick
• S’more Kit-$2/each

All activity pass $15/per person- Pass includes unlimited train rides, maze, tube slide and hayride (hayride runs as scheduled times each evening and a time ticket is required)

Winter Solstice :: Pinecones for Birds

Thursday December 20 :: 3pm – 5pm

Your kids will get a kick out of helping Nature to feed the birds in this craft activity! The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, heralding the beginning of winter but also the return of the light.  Come celebrate by creating a natural pinecone bird feeder to hang in your yard.  This is being held at the Richland Library St. Andrews :: 2916 Broad River Road. Swansea Branch of Lexington County Public Library :: Hang on — it’s time to put the jingle in your holiday. Join our busy little elves to share festive stories and create handmade crafts. Edventure Children’s Museum :: The holiday event series for children features visits and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday arts and crafts, readings of favorite Holiday Classic stories, and a Santa’s Secret Workshop where kids can purchase gifts for parents and family members (at child-size prices and with help from the elves). 

City of Columbia’s Holiday Ice

Now through January 21, 2019 :: Times vary depending on day of week

Give your children the thrill of moving over ice in a pair of skates. This seasonal activity is held in the parking lot at Columbiana Centre mall in Harbison. Jingle Fest will be held on Saturday Dec 22, a special event offering games, arts and crafts, refreshments, music and more. Times are here.

Lights Before Christmas

Now through December 30 :: 5pm – 9pm

Riverbanks Zoo is a magical fairyland of almost one million lights after 5:00pm each evening this month, and your kiddies will love the illuminated tree with animation, sharing wishes with Santa, enjoying a marshmallow roast and hot cocoa and more fun. Details here.

Visit the Columbia Museum of Art

Introduce your children to the world of visual art at our very own art museum. There is so much for kids to gain from an early appreciation of art. Take them through the galleries, then take time to read about an artist and his work when your child shows an interest in a particular piece. The museum also offers programs that help children explore the museum in a meaningful way. Click here for more on that. Children under 6 are admitted free; over 6 is just $5. More here.

Get Outside! Congaree National Park

Boardwalk Loop Trail
Round Trip Distance: 2.4 miles

The boardwalk begins on a bluff at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center with an elevated section that leads down into the old-growth bottomland hardwood forest. A variety of different tree species can be observed including bald cypress and tupelo trees in the lowest elevations. Loblolly pines, oaks, maples and holly can also be observed. The boardwalk has benches along the way and is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Pick up the Self-guided Boardwalk Tour brochure at the Visitor Center before beginning your walk to learn more about the the natural and cultural history of Congaree. Park website here.
