The Living Christmas Story | Dec 1 – 3

The tradition continues as Union United Methodist Church presents the 24th annual The Living Christmas Story drive-through nativity Friday through Sunday, December 1-3, from 6:30pm to 9pm each night. The Living Christmas Story will offer a dramatic sight and sound re-creation of Bethlehem and other Biblical scenes associated with the birth of Jesus. Live animals, handmade costumes, beautiful scenery, and more than 400 cast members make this a Christmas experience to remember for the entire family. Website here.

Hanging of the Greens | Dec 3

You’re invited to Shandon United Methodist (3407 Devine Street) for their 8:45am service and 11am service. Enjoy these moving services filled with Christian symbolism, glorious decorations and beautiful music of the season by the Celebration Choir and Wesley Ringers. Hanging of the Greens marks the beginning the Advent Season – commemorating the coming birth of Jesus through placing ivy, cedar, mistletoe and holly. 30th Annual Columbia Christmas Pageant | Dec 8 – 10

Event will take place December 8th at 7pm, December 9th at 2pm and 5pm, and December 10th at 4pm at First Baptist Columbia. With state of the art lighting, including thousands of Christmas lights, glorious music, and a cast and crew of hundreds, the Columbia Christmas Pageant is something you certainly don’t want to miss. Tickets are free, but you need a ticket to enter. Jesus is His Name | Dec 8 – 17

Join Jesus Is His Name for our annual production on the life of Jesus! We have live animals including Abraham the camel! Bring your friends, children or granchildren to this amazing event and enjoy this great time of the year with us. The Singing Christmas Tree | Dec 8 – 10

Shandon Baptist Church will hold this free event. A cast of 400, including a full orchestra, and a 25-foot tree holding 130 singers and over 50,000 lights make for an incredible holiday experience for all ages! December 8 at 7pm, December 9 at 2:30pm and 5:30pm and December 10 at 2:30pm and 5:30pm. All seating is general admission. “Love is Born” | Dec 9 – 10

This Living Nativity narrated drama (no speaking parts) will be held at Living Springs Lutheran Church (4224 Hard Scrabble Rd.) on Saturday and Sunday, December 9 & 10, at 7:00pm. Love Feast: Choir & Orchestra | Dec 10

A Christmas celebration rich in Christian community at Shandon United Methodist Church at 5pm in the Sanctuary. This celebration is filled with beautiful music by the Chancel Choir and orchestra, with sharing of bread, coffee and warm fellowship. Website here.

First Presbyterian Church: Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio | Dec 10

The First Presbyterian Church of Columbia will hold the Children’s Choirs and Youth Chorus Christmas Service at 6pm in the church Sanctuary. More here.

Mass of the Children | Sandlapper Singers | Dec 14 & 15

Experience a performance of Rutter’s “Mass of the Children.” Sandlapper Singers will be joined by the Rushingbrook Children’s Choir and orchestral accompaniment to present this masterwork along with nostalgic holiday classics. This Christmas Benefit Concert will be held at Shandon United Methodist Church at 5pm on December 17th. “Eddie Huss and Friends” will benefit Alzheimers Research, with a free-will offering. Anyone who has the desire to sing or hear Messiah is invited to Sing-Along MessiahDecember 18, 7:00pm, at beautiful, historic Washington Street United Methodist Church in downtown Columbia.  Be a part of a joyous night of worship, Sing Along Messiahinstrumental music, and singing, as a professional orchestra, accomplished soloists, and a choir of 800 voices perform Part One of Handel’s Messiah, perhaps the best known and most popular oratorio ever written.  For this 15th anniversary community celebration, soloists are professional singers, four native South Carolinians with national and international performance acclaim. Sing-Along Messiah is the only annual sing-along presentation of Messiah in South Carolina, and is presented to the public without an admission charge.
